BM&F Bovespa and General Atlantic: Building for the Future
The Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange (BM&F) selected GA to invest just prior to its IPO in November 2007 because of GA's long-term focus, global relationships and experience investing in the capital markets sector in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
GA's investment served as an anchor for the IPO and helped to attract investors from across the world to this highly successful offering. In 2008, BM&F merged with Bovespa to create BM&F Bovespa, one of the largest exchanges in the world by market capitalization. BM&F Bovespa is currently focused on enhancing its electronic trading platform to attract new participants to the exchange, including foreign investors.
Emdeon and General Atlantic: Reinventing Healthcare Transaction Services
In 2006, General Atlantic acquired a majority ownership interest in Emdeon (NYSE: EM), a leading provider of revenue and payment cycle management solutions, connecting healthcare payers, providers and patients.
With GA's assistance, Emdeon has completed strategic acquisitions, expanded its Board of Directors and management team, and extended its core product and service offering. The company continues to shape and revolutionize the efficient exchange of financial information between healthcare constituents, enabling the healthcare system to operate more efficiently.
In 2009, Emdeon completed an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, achieving a market capitalization of $1.8 billion.
Gavilon and General Atlantic: Extending a Leading Agriculture and Energy Platform
In June 2008, GA invested in Gavilon, formerly ConAgra Trade Group, a leading provider of merchandising and distribution for agriculture and energy resources. Gavilon is at the nexus of multiple global macro growth drivers and represents GA's first investment in Energy & Resources.
GA is actively leveraging the firm's geographic footprint, network of relationships and expertise in financial services and business solutions to assist the management team in building a global agriculture and related energy resources platform.
Gilt Groupe and General Atlantic: Creating a New Era of Ecommerce
In August 2009, GA invested in Gilt Groupe, a leading online retail company offering luxury goods and services. Gilt is at the forefront of ecommerce innovation, having built a passionate consumer following by offering daily flash sales to members at Gilt.com.
GA's investment and strategic expertise has helped Gilt actively leverage its large and growing membership into new lifestyle categories including Gilt Man and jetsetter.com.
