General Atlantic Announces Promotions to Managing Director and Principal

General Atlantic LLC (GA), a leading global growth equity firm, today announced the following promotions to managing director: Raul Rai and Sunish Sharma, both based in Mumbai; Oliver Thum, based in Düsseldorf; and Sean Tong, based in Hong Kong. In addition, the following individuals have been elected to principal: Gabriel Caillaux and Jan Hammer, both based in London; Jan-Daniel Neumann, based in Düsseldorf; and Alexander Chulack, Adrianna Ma and Brett Rochkind, all based in the United States.

These appointments reflect GA's continuing commitment to build and expand its team of over 70 investment professionals worldwide and its strong view of continued investment opportunities globally. GA manages $15 billion in capital and invests about $2 billion annually in growth companies. Forty percent of GA's investment professionals are based outside the United States, and fifty-six percent of the capital GA has deployed over the last five years has been invested outside the U.S.

Raul Rai combines his experience in investment banking and operating roles to work with several of GA's investments in India across industries. Mr. Rai joined GA's Mumbai office in 2005 from UBS in New York, where he was a Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Software Investment Banking. Prior to UBS, Mr. Rai was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs in New York and London where he covered clients in the Telecom, Media and Technology industries. Mr. Rai received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1996, where he graduated as a Baker Scholar, and he graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Computer Science and Economics from Boston University in 1991.

Also based in Mumbai, Sunish Sharma has worked closely with a number of GA's Indian and global portfolio companies across several sectors. He has served as a director of Sharekhan and serves as an alternate director on the boards of Hexaware, Infotech, and IBS. Prior to joining GA in January 2004, Mr. Sharma worked for McKinsey & Company for over 6 years. Mr. Sharma is a gold medalist from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, where he earned his MBA after graduating with honors from Delhi University.

Oliver Thum is based in GA's Düsseldorf office focusing cross-industry in Europe with specific expertise in healthcare. Dr. Thum has worked closely with several of GA's current and former portfolio companies including GWI, CompuGROUP and LHS. Prior to joining GA in 2001, he was a consultant with Bain & Company working with private equity clients. Dr. Thum holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University and a Master's degree in Economics from Witten/Herdecke University in Germany.

Based in GA's Hong Kong office, Sean Tong focuses on opportunities across the firm's sector areas in the Greater China region. He has worked closely with GA's public and private portfolio companies in China and serves on the board of WuXi Pharmatech. Before joining GA, Mr. Tong worked at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York. Mr. Tong graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Gabriel Caillaux focuses on investments in the financial services, communications and business services sectors in Europe and is currently a director or board observer of several portfolio companies, including Saxo Bank and Global Collect. He joined GA in the firm's London office in 2004. Prior to joining GA, Mr. Caillaux worked in Merrill Lynch from 2000 through 2004 as an Analyst and Associate in its Telecoms, Media and Technology division in London and New York. Mr. Caillaux holds a Master's degree in Finance from ESCP-EAP European School of Management.

Jan Hammer joined GA in London in 2003. Mr. Hammer has identified and executed numerous acquisitions for GA portfolio companies, including CompuGROUP and Northgate Information Solutions, and currently works closely with Torex Retail. Before joining GA, Mr. Hammer worked at Morgan Stanley from 1998 though 2003 as an Analyst and Associate in its M&A, Communications, and Capital Markets divisions in London and New York. Mr. Hammer holds an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD, and is a graduate of Oxford University.

Jan-Daniel Neumann, based in GA's Dusseldorf office, has worked closely with a number of public and private portfolio companies including LHS, Navigon, Sesa, TDS and Xchanging. He is currently an observer to the board of Navigon AG and a former observer to the board of LHS. Prior to joining GA in 2003, Mr. Neumann worked for the Investment Banking division of Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt. Mr. Neumann is a graduate of WHU - Otto-Beisheim Graduate School of Management and SISU - Shanghai International Studies University.

Alexander Chulack focuses on opportunities in the financial services sector and is a director or board observer of several portfolio companies, including GETCO LLC and RiskMetrics Group. Prior to joining GA, Mr. Chulack was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co. and Goldman, Sach & Co., where he worked with the firms' financial institutions clients. Mr. Chulack received his BA in Economics from Amherst College.

Adrianna Ma is currently leading GA's efforts in the energy sector as well as working with several companies in the enterprise solutions sector. Prior to joining GA, Ms. Ma worked at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker, focused on technology mergers and acquisitions. Previously, she was a project manager at Hewlett-Packard Company. Ms. Ma received her BS in Electrical Engineering and Sciences and ME in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 1996 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2000.

Brett Rochkind focuses on investments in the enterprise solutions sector working with technology-enabled services businesses. Prior to joining GA in 2002, Mr. Rochkind was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co. in the M&A department in New York and Menlo Park, and helped to establish Morgan Stanley's Israel office based in Tel Aviv. Mr. Rochkind graduated magna cum laude and as a University Scholar from the Stern School of Business at NYU and earned his M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
