General Atlantic Continues to Expand India Team

GREENWICH, CT--General Atlantic LLC (GA), a leading global growth equity firm, today announced that Ranjit V. Pandit will join GA as a managing director in the firm's Mumbai, India office. This appointment reflects General Atlantic's ongoing commitment to expand its global team of nearly 70 investment professionals, and its strong long-term view of investment prospects and market opportunities in India. One of the earliest global private investment firms in India, GA has invested nearly $1 billion in the country and built a team of a dozen local professionals since 2002. Founded in 1980, General Atlantic manages approximately $15 billion, investing over $1 billion per year in growth companies globally.
Mr. Pandit was most recently the Chairman of McKinsey & Company India. He joined McKinsey in August 1980 and as a co-founder of McKinsey's India office transferred from New York to Mumbai in January 1993. In his years with McKinsey, Mr. Pandit has served a number of major U.S. and other global companies in a variety of areas, including corporate governance, strategic alliances, technology management, manufacturing, marketing and sales. Mr. Pandit played a leading role in building McKinsey's presence in India and advised a large number of world-class companies to help strengthen their competitive positions and support their international growth strategies.

Mr. Pandit holds a BE (EE) degree, with distinction, in Electrical Engineering from VJTI, University of Bombay, India, and an MBA degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1980). While at Wharton, Ranjit was on a Fellowship and assisted businesses on issues relating to international strategy.
General Atlantic opened its office in Mumbai in 2002. Its investments in India include Genpact, Patni, Infotech, IBS Software Services, Hexaware and National Stock Exchange (NSE), among others.
