William E. Ford is the Chief Executive Officer of General Atlantic, where he has worked since 1991. Mr. Ford brings an extensive understanding of the financial markets and specific expertise in the finance and consumer sectors. Mr. Ford works closely with, and serves on the board of, several current portfolio companies including Mu Sigma, Oak Hill Advisors, First Republic Bank, Markit and GETCO. He formerly served on the boards of a number of other GA portfolio companies, including NYSE Euronext, E*Trade, Priceline, NYMEX Holdings, Computershare, SSA Global Technologies and Zagat Survey. Mr. Ford is the chair of the firm's Executive Committee and is a member of the Investment and Portfolio Committees.
Mr. Ford is involved with a number of educational and not-for-profit organizations. Since 2001, he has served as a Trustee of Amherst College and chairs the Investment Committee, which oversees the College's $2.2 billion endowment. He is also a member of the board of trustees of The Rockefeller University, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The Collegiate School. He is also active in business education and serves on the advisory board of the Stanford Business School and Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management.
Prior to joining General Atlantic, Mr. Ford worked at Morgan Stanley & Co. as an investment banker. Mr. Ford received his BA in Economics from Amherst College in 1983 and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1987.
