Rene M. Kern is a Managing Director at General Atlantic, which he joined in 1996. He is responsible for the firm's capital partnering efforts and chairs GA's Capital Committee. Mr. Kern is also a member of the firm's Executive, Investment and Portfolio Committees. Between 1996 and 2002, Mr. Kern headed GA's European activities, leading several new investments and building a team of senior professionals and advisors. From 2002 until 2007, Mr. Kern led the firm's Financial Services sector, serving on the boards of RiskMetrics Group as a director and NYMEX Holdings as an observer. During that time, he also helped build out General Atlantic's business in Brazil. Until recently, Mr. Kern chaired GA's Portfolio Committee, responsible for monitoring portfolio company performance, delivering value-add to our companies and managing liquidity. He is currently a Director of Getco LLC in the US and Amedes Group in Germany.

Mr. Kern joined General Atlantic after six years with Morgan Stanley in New York and London, where he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Mr. Kern was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston, MA.

Mr. Kern is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an M.A. from the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a fellow of the Lauder Institute International M.B.A. program and currently serves on Lauder's Advisory Council. He received his Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of U.C. Berkeley's Metro New York Committee. Mr. Kern is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Greenwich Academy.
