Klaus Esser is an Advisory Director at General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm, where he has worked since 2000. He focuses on the firm's investments in Europe. He serves as chairman of the board for AMEDES AG (medical laboratories), and for Navigon AG (navigation devices and software).  He is also a member of the board of CompuGroup Holding AG (health software and connectivity products). Previously he served as chairman for GWI (health software), Ixos (software) and TDS (IT-outsourcing), all former portfolio companies.

Prior to joining General Atlantic, Mr. Esser spent 23 years at Mannesmann AG, where he was Chairman of the Executive Board since 1999 and, prior to this, CFO since 1994.

Mr. Esser is a past chairman of Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft, the German MBA Association.

Mr. Esser received a Law Degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, a PhD in tax law from the University of Regensburg, Germany, and an S.M. in Management from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
