Rene Kern joined General Atlantic in 1996 and has served in a number of leadership roles at the firm in North America, Latin America, and Europe. He currently oversees the firm’s portfolio value-add resources, including GA’s Operating Partners, Resources Group, Special Advisor and Advisory Director programs. Rene is a member of the firm’s Executive, and Portfolio and Capital Committees. He is currently a director of KCG and has served on several other private and publicly traded companies.
Rene initially joined GA to serve as head of our European activities, leading several new investments and building a team of senior professionals and advisors. He then led our Financial Services sector and helped to build GA’s business in Brazil.
Rene joined GA after six years with Morgan Stanley in New York and London, where he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division. Before that, he was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Rene earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an M.A. from the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a fellow of the University’s Lauder Institute International MBA program and serves on Lauder's Board of Governors. He received his B.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of U.C. Berkeley's Berkeley New York Leadership and the Board of Trustees of Greenwich Academy.
