Global Approach
Our portfolio companies, their customers, competitors and the issues they
face have all become global in nature. For the most part, information technology
companies must take a global approach to their business from the outset to capitalize
on valuable opportunities and stay ahead of competition. Since inception, we
have taken a global approach to prospecting and working with our portfolio companies
to assist in their global growth. We examine the sectoral dynamics affecting
each company as well as the impact that globalization has on these dynamics.
General Atlantic began actively prospecting outside the U.S. in the early 1990s.
We have established offices in London, Düsseldorf,
Hong Kong, São Paulo, and Mumbai to better position the firm to
find, execute and manage outstanding investments in key strategic markets. To
date, we have invested over $3 billion internationally, primarily in Europe and
selectively in India, China and elsewhere.
