Martin Escobari is a Managing Director and head of General Atlantic’s Latin America business, based in the firm’s São Paulo office. He joined GA in 2012 and is a member of the Executive and Investment Committees and co-chairs the Human Resources Committee. Martin serves on the board of directors of several GA portfolio companies including Ourofino, Pague Menos, and Sanfer and has previously served on the boards of prior GA investments including Sura Asset Management, XP Investimentos, Smiles, and Decolar.
Martin was previously a Managing Director at Advent International, having joined the firm in 2007. He led Advent’s investment in Cetip, Latin America’s largest central depository of private securities, and OTC derivatives. Before that, he was Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Submarino.com, a leading Brazilian online retailer which went public on the Bovespa and was sold in 2006. He began his career as an Associate at Boston Consulting Group.
Martin graduated with high honors with a B.S. from Harvard College and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, graduating as a Baker Scholar. He serves on the board of Primeira Chance, a scholarship program for gifted children in Brazil and is active with Endeavor Brazil, where he mentors young entrepreneurs. Martin is also a member of the Advisory Group for the Brazil office of Harvard´s Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies.
