At General Atlantic, we are committed to handling information about you responsibly and we recognize and respect your right to privacy.

This Applicant Tracking Privacy Notice applies solely individuals who are considered for a job or board appointment within General Atlantic or one of General Atlantic’s portfolio companies. It describes the types of personal information we collect about you, how we may use that information and with whom we may share it. It also describes the measures we take to protect the security of your personal information and how you can reach us to answer any questions you may have about our privacy practices. 

About us

We are General Atlantic Service Company, L.P. Our principal place of business is at Park Avenue Plaza, 55 East 52nd Street, 33rd Floor, New York, NY 10055. GA has a number of subsidiaries and offices located in various jurisdictions, details of which can be found on the GA website at generalatlantic.com/offices. We are a growth equity firm providing capital and strategic support for growth companies.

Why are you receiving this information?

You are receiving this information because we think you have qualifications and experience that make you a good fit (now or in the future) for our organization or one or more of our portfolio companies and we think you may be interested in these opportunities. 

We have created a personal profile for you in one or more applicant tracking systems that we manage. This profile will include any personal information that you have given to us or a General Atlantic employee, such as a business card or v-card, and may also include publicly available information about you which we obtain from professional social media networks such as LinkedIn or Xing. It may also include information we collect from third party sources, which include: Greenhouse or a similar applicant tracking system, companies for whom you work, our portfolio companies, other organizations with whom you have dealings, government agencies, credit reporting agencies, recruitment agencies, individuals who you provide as a reference, an information or service provider, publicly available records.

Your choices

If you do not want to have a profile in GA’s applicant tracking systems, or want us to stop contacting you about business opportunities, you can let us know at any time by emailing us at [email protected]. We will remove you details and add you to a list so make sure that you are not contacted about opportunities in the future. 

What personal information do we collect?

Personal information is information that either alone or in combination with other information can directly or indirectly identify you. 

Examples of personal information processed by GA includes the following types of data: 

(i) Personal Information, such as your name, age, gender, address, phone number, fax number, email and postal address, date of birth, social security/national insurance (or other similar) identification number, passport number, identity card with photo, profession, proof of address, tax identification number, tax status, tax certificates and other related tax information, citizenship, nationality, country location marital status and dependents, next of kin and emergency contact information,

(ii) Professional details, such as salary and other compensation, annual leave, pension, benefits information, payroll records and tax status information; employment / contract start date and end date; location of employment; performance and HR information which may include disciplinary and grievance information;

(iii) Recruitment information, such as CVs, copies of right to work/visa documentation, references and other information provided as part of the application process

(iv) Employment records, such as employment contracts, consultancy agreements, job titles, work history, working hours, training records and professional memberships

(v) Insurance matters, such as accidents, claims or arranging cover, and compensation history

(vi) Security information, such as CCTV footage and other information obtained through electronic means such as swipecard records

(vii) IT information, such as emails and browser history to the extent that it is retained on any of our computers, laptops or systems, and information gathered automatically by GA’s IT assets, such as IP addresses of personal devices and home network names

(viii) Location and geo-tracking data, such as when you are within a certain distance of a GA office or when you are within a certain distance of another GA employee

(ix) Other information relating to your activities, interests or private life which you provide to us including where they are part of messages or conversations sent through our systems or networks, including gifts or hospitality that you receive where you provide details of them to us

(x) Financial and credit information, including but not limited to IBAN and BIC codes, capital account balance and bank account information, commitment amount, portfolio information and participation in other investments, assets and investment history with funds sponsored by GA, income and source of wealth, source of funds.

We may also collect “sensitive personal information”, which is a subset of personal information concerning:

(i) Information about your nationality or ethnicity which may include where we are required to collate this by relevant governmental authorities or in order to check your right to work in the country in which you are located.

(ii) Information about any disability or other health factor(s) that you have, information on your health, including symptoms of illness (such as whether your temperature meets or exceeds a certain level and whether you have other symptoms), any medical condition, health and sickness records, statement for fitness to work or occupational health reports if required to enable us to make adjustments or carry out appropriate assessments, and information which you may choose voluntarily to declare in relation to your COVID-19 vaccine status.

(iii) Information about criminal convictions and offences where required by applicable law or regulation or where permitted by applicable law.

(iv) An account log-in, financial account, debit card, or credit card number in combination with any required security or access code, password, or credentials allowing access to an account.

(v) A social security, driver’s license, state identification card, or passport number

(vi) Information related to racial, ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, union membership, sex life or sexual orientation.

(vii) The contents of an individual’s mail, email, and text messages unless the business is the intended recipient of the communication. 

(viii) Inferences drawn from any of the information identified above to create a profile about you reflecting your preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.

In such context, your political opinions which have public exposure will be processed by GA on the basis of the personal data having been disclosed to GA by you or made public by you and/or the personal information is necessary for reasons of substantial public interests or otherwise as permitted by law. All of the above categories of data are collectively hereinafter referred to as “Personal Information”.

How do we use your data and for what purpose?

We use Personal Information for the purpose of managing, carrying out, and supporting and improving job candidate screening and hiring functions and activities, including the uses described below. In addition to general job candidate screening and hiring purposes, we list below relevant “business purposes” as they are described in the CCPA/CPRA. 

  1. To process or respond to your application or resume
  2. To evaluate your qualifications and suitability for employment
  3. To consider you for potential roles, opportunities or jobs at General Atlantic, or one or more of its portfolio companies or investment prospects
  4. To share contact details and other information to facilitate introductions with General Atlantic portfolio companies and investment prospects
  5. To communicate with you (including for the purpose of answering any questions you may have)
  6. To support equality and diversity initiatives 
  7. To invite you to General Atlantic events and initiatives 
  8. To send you newsletters or informational materials about General Atlantic
  9. To comply with local laws and regulations, including requests from government or other public authorities, for pursuing legal rights and remedies, defending litigation, conducting audits and investigations, and complying with internal policies and procedures
  10. To analyze your personal data internally
  11. To perform data analytics and for strategic planning

General Atlantic does not collect or process sensitive personal information with the purpose of inferring characteristics about job candidates.

We will use the Personal Information we collect from you only for the purposes described in this Applicant Tracking Privacy Notice or for purposes that we explain to you at the time we collect your Personal Information. However, we may also use your Personal Information for other purposes that are not incompatible with the purposes we have disclosed to you (such as archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes, or statistical purposes) in accordance with any applicable data protection laws, acts or regulations. 

In general, we will process your Personal Information to carry out our legitimate business interests, where such interests do not override your fundamental rights and liberties. Where required, we will ask you to provide your consent for specific types of Personal Information (e.g. special categories of personal data). 

Who do we share your data with? 

Your profile is made available to General Atlantic group entities worldwide. Members of our group utilizing the Applicant Tracking System to see if any candidates may be suitable for vacant roles. If your qualifications may be suitable for an open role, General Atlantic may contact you. 

International transfers

General Atlantic group is an international organization with affiliates located around the globe. Consequently, your personal information may be used outside your home country. Some countries may not offer the same level of protection as your home country. However, the collection, storage and use of your personal information will continue to be governed by this notice and General Atlantic will only transfer personal information provided that it has implemented appropriate safeguards to ensure the security of your personal information when transferred outside your home country. 

Third-party service providers

General Atlantic shares your personal data with third-party service providers, for example, to host your data, to support General Atlantic with the administration of our applicant tracking systems and/or recruitment process or to provide services to General Atlantic or on our behalf. Personal Information may be provided to our portfolio companies, professional service organizations, such as law firms, auditors or consultants, and to background check providers. Personal Information may also be provided to third parties for security purposes, to data analytics providers, internet service providers and operating systems and platforms.  

General Atlantic will ensure that third parties accessing your personal data shall comply with the same data protection requirements as General Atlantic and the personal data will be used exclusively for the purposes set out in this Notice.

How long do we keep your profile?

We will only store your profile for as long as you want it to be available to General Atlantic or for so long as it reasonably necessary to achieve the purposes outlined in this Applicant Tracking Notice. 

You have control of your profile and can request that it is deleted at any time by emailing [email protected]. To the extent that any of your personal information is incorrect or not required for the above purposes, you have the right to request correction, update, deletion or blocking of such data in accordance with applicable data protection law.

Please note that General Atlantic also reserves the right, without notice or your consent, to remove or your delete your profile from the Applicant Tracking System at any time.

Updates to this Applicant Tracking Privacy Notice

We may update this notice from time to time in response to legal, technical or business developments. When we update our Applicant Tracking Privacy Notice, we will take appropriate measures to inform you, consistent with the significance of the changes we make. We will obtain your consent to any material changes if and where this is required by applicable data protection laws, acts or regulations. 

You can see when this Applicant Tracking Privacy Notice was last updated by checking the “last updated” date displayed at the top of this notice.

What Rights Do California Residents Have?

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 and/or its implementing regulations (the “CCPA”), residents domiciled in California have certain rights with respect to their Personal Information. In particular, you may have the right to:

  • Request that we disclose, free of charge, the categories and specifics of the Personal Information we collect about California residents (and/or, if applicable, sell or otherwise disclose to a third party for business purposes). This includes the categories of sources from which information is collected, the purpose of collection, selling or sharing, and categories of third parties to whom personal information has been disclosed. Please note that a disclosure request may only be made twice within a twelve month period;
  • Information. Currently, however, General Atlantic does not sell or share Personal Information as defined under Cal Civil Code Section 798.140 (ah) (1); 
  • Request the correction of any inaccurate personal information we collect and maintain; 
  • Request that we delete the Personal Information we have collected. Following our verification of the request, we will comply with the request and delete any or all the Personal Information in our possession that we collected from the California resident and/or any or all such Personal Information in the possession of our service providers, unless otherwise restricted by law or regulation; and
  • Request that we limit the use of your sensitive personal information. Please note this right shall only apply in limited circumstances, where sensitive data has been used for purposes other than those set forth in section 7027(m).

We follow the requirements of California Civil Code §1798.125, and will not discriminate against any consumer who exercises the rights under the CCPA.

In order to comply with your request, you may need to provide us with personal information and other information to verify your identity and the nature of your request.  Please note that in some circumstances, we may not be able to fully comply with your request, for example, if we are required to retain certain information about you to comply with applicable laws and regulations or if the information is necessary in order for us to provide the services you requested. 

You have the right to appoint an authorized agent to exercise your rights on your behalf. 

Please note that the rights under the CCPA do not apply to Personal Information collected, processed, sold or disclosed pursuant to Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (Public Law 106-102) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (12 CFR 1022).
